I saw the trailer for Like Crazy a few weeks ago and heard a graduate of my school was involved in making the film. Being in a long distance relationship and attending Columbia gave me a connection to both the story and the filmmakers so I wanted to check it out. Although I wasn’t a fan of the ending or how the two main characters were not loyal to each other at times, this film paints a realistic and beautiful picture of what a long distance relationship is like. From the dorky moments all couples have to the denial that the day is approaching when you will have to separate again, I personally connected so many times to the feelings being portrayed on screen. Probably most painful was seeing that moment where they split at the airport, one going up the escalator sadly waving goodbye while the other stands stationary trying to pretend it isn’t happening again. I cried. Even though I was in the theater with several of my college friends, I cried. Maybe the story wasn’t the greatest ever, but the raw human emotion seemed so so real.
